Life of a Fellow: Harry

Everyone, meet Harry! He’s done an amazing job as a former Fellow at the LINC, and we’re so excited to have him on our team this year, but now as one of our new Directors of Alumni Support!

Hi! My name is Harry Levant and I am a Fellow at The LINC High School! Or I was, now I am one of the Directors of Alumni for 12Plus (woo hoo!!). When I was asked to write my blog, I lost track of time because I was training for my new role with our organization. I have the unique opportunity to wrap up the blog posts for my 2022 12Plus Fellows Class (the best class if we are being honest)

My year was nothing short of an amazing experience! I have always wanted to work in education and 12Plus offered me the opportunity to achieve that goal. I am a lifelong resident of Philadelphia and seeing an organization dedicated to our students was a huge draw for me. What I did not expect was that I would be a Fellow in one of our newest schools! The LINC!

I got to work closely with my Site Director on a two person team and while that may seem like it was daunting, it offered me the opportunity to get more deeply involved with the organization and our work. This month, I got to write guides for application processes, attend staff meetings, and build a celebration wall dedicated to all of the money for colleges that our students earned! These were all unique opportunities that were opened up because I was on a two person team! Thanks to the mentorship from my Site Director, Kathleen Johnson, I was able to learn so much from my Fellowship year and help kick things off in the right way at The LINC!

Another really big highlight of this past month was taking my students to Community College of Philadelphia on a trip! We were able to attend Express Enrollment Day and get everyone all signed up for classes! I won’t forget how excited they all were when we FINALLY got to show them what college was going to be like! Everyone had already picked out their favorite place to study and where they were going to get lunch from the food trucks!

My Fellowship year taught me so much about how to bring your very best in service of our students. And I am so excited that I get to stick around and support them as they enroll in college, trade, or career programs! So you’ll probably hear from me again soon. Until then!
